Acme Carpets

Our shop, Acme Carpets, is right on Chauri Road. If you walk down this street, you'll see a lot of places like ours, but we've been here for a long time. The shop is filled from floor to ceiling with rolls of carpet and rugs. It can get a bit dusty because of all the wool and fibers, but that’s just part of the trade. We spend our days unrolling things for people to look at and then rolling them back up again. It’s heavy work and keeps us in shape. We don't have a website or any fancy marketing. Most people just walk in off Chauri Road because they saw a rug they liked in the window. We get a lot of locals and sometimes people from further away who heard about us. The lighting in the back isn't great, so we often take pieces out to the front to see the true colors in the sunlight. We know the history of the patterns and where the materials come from. It's a slow kind of business. You can't rush someone picking out a carpet they’re going to walk on for twenty years. Sometimes we sit and drink tea with the customers for an hour before they decide. It's a bit old-fashioned, but that’s how we like to run things. The floor is usually covered in snippets of thread. It's just a simple shop. The door handle sticks if you don’t pull it right.
