Rathore Masala is tucked away in Ayodya Basti, right near the Gunwant Baba Temple in Betul. If you walk through Durga Ward, the smell of spices usually hits you before you even see our door. This is a very local operation. Our days are spent grinding chilies, turmeric, and all sorts of other spices. The machines make a lot of noise while they are running, but that's just how it is. Since the temple is so close, the sound of the bells helps us keep track of the day. We aren't a massive factory with hundreds of workers. It is just a small team in a space that used to be a regular house. Marketing departments or fancy websites aren't things we have here. Most people just walk in because they live in the ward and need something fresh for their kitchen. Spice dust covers the floor pretty quickly, so we are always sweeping up. It can be hard work, especially when the Betul heat picks up in the middle of the afternoon. We take breaks outside when we can to get some fresh air. The building is old, but it stays cool enough for the work we do. Most people in the area know us by name now. It’s just a regular business doing regular things without any pretense. Spices and hard work are what fill our days from early morning until the sun sets.
