Bharat Bricks

Our yard is located out in Ranipur, in the village of Sitakamat. It’s a quiet part of the Betul district, near Ghodadongri. Being out here in the village means we are close to the source of the clay we use for the bricks. Most of the people working here are from around the area, and we’ve all known each other for a long time. The work follows the seasons quite closely. When it rains too much, we have to stop the kiln and wait for things to dry out, which can be frustrating when we have orders to fill for local builders. We spend our days mostly outdoors, watching the fire or stacking the finished bricks in the yard. The air smells like burnt earth most of the time. We don't have a computer or a fancy office; we just keep track of everything in a notebook that stays in my pocket. If you come by, you'll probably find us sitting under the big tree near the entrance during lunch. We handle the loading ourselves, and it’s tough on the back, but we don't complain much about it. The trucks have to navigate the narrow village roads to get here, so we always try to help the drivers guide them in. It's a slow pace of life compared to the city, but the bricks we make work fine for the houses being built in the tehsil. We just keep our heads down and keep the fire going as long as the weather stays clear.
