Our place is on the first floor at 2 Sadar Patrappa Road, in H K K Lane. Being on the first floor means we have to carry everything up and down the stairs, which keeps us busy. H K K Lane is one of those narrow paths where you can barely fit a cart through. It’s easy to miss if you aren't looking for it. We have been in this building for a long time now. The rooms are packed with tools and various items we keep for the trade. It’s a bit of a maze inside with all the boxes stacked up. We know where everything is, even if it looks a bit messy to someone else walking in. The light isn't great inside, so we have these bright tubelights on all day. From the window, you can see the top of the street market and all the people rushing around below. It’s a different world up here compared to the ground floor. It’s slightly quieter, but you still get the smell of the street and the sound of the crowds. We spend a lot of time counting inventory and checking through the orders that come in. It’s a steady kind of work. We usually have a small radio playing in the background to pass the time. It’s just us doing our thing in this corner of S.P. Road.
