The Raymond Shop

The Raymond Shop here in Austin Town has been around for quite a bit. We are at 264 Center Road, and Mr. J. Stephen’s name is on the records. It is a busy street in Bangalore, and we see a lot of people walking by every day. Inside, it smells like new fabric and starch. We have rolls of cloth everywhere and the tailors are usually busy in the back. It isn't a high-fashion boutique with bright lights; it's a neighborhood shop where people come when they need a good suit or a shirt that actually fits. We spend our time measuring folks and helping them pick out colors that don't look too bad on them. Sometimes the shop gets really crowded on the weekends, especially when there is a wedding season coming up. We have to keep track of a lot of orders and sometimes the chalk marks on the fabric get confusing if we don't pay attention. It is a lot of standing on our feet and talking to customers about what they like. We don't use any fancy sales tactics. We just show the cloth and tell them how long it will take to finish the work. It is a simple way to earn a living, and we have been doing it this way for many years now. We are happy to be right here on Center Road.
