St. Marthas Hospital

St. Marthas Hospital is right on Nrupathunga Road, which is a pretty busy part of the city. You can hear the buses and the honking from the street all day long, but once you get inside the gates, it feels a bit more settled. The building is quite old and has a lot of history to it, with thick walls and high windows that let in some nice light. We have a lot of corridors that wind around, and it takes new staff a few days to really find their way without getting lost. There’s always a bit of a breeze in the open walkways, which is nice when it gets hot outside. We spend a lot of our time dealing with the paperwork that comes with being a city hospital, and the filing cabinets are pretty much bursting at the seams. The staff room is small and always has a pot of tea going. We don’t have fancy uniforms or anything like that; we just wear what’s practical for the job. Most of the people who come in are just looking for some help with their day-to-day health issues, and we try to get them seen as quickly as the queue allows. It’s a lot of walking back and forth between the different wings of the building. We’re just a group of people working together on Nrupathunga Road, trying to keep the place clean and functional for everyone who needs it.
