Shruthi Industries

We are over at 65 Viswaneedam. It’s a quiet enough spot until we start the machines up in the morning. This is where Shruthi Industries does its thing. We’ve got a workshop floor that stays pretty busy from Monday to Saturday. There is usually a smell of metal and oil in the air. We don't have a big fancy office, just a small corner where we keep the records. Most of our day is spent making sure the production is going okay. We wear old clothes because things tend to get greasy. Sometimes the machines act up and we have to spend hours getting them back on track. It’s a lot of manual work and checking measurements. We’ve been here for years and we know all the neighbors. They don't mind the noise too much. We take our breaks outside when the weather is nice. It’s not a glamorous job, but we take pride in the things we make. People come by to pick up their orders or to ask if we can make something specific. We just look at the drawings and see if it’s possible. It’s a straightforward way to make a living. We keep the floor swept but it’s never perfectly clean. That is just how a workshop is. The rain sounds really loud on the metal roof during the monsoon. We just keep working through it all.
