Shaan Power Tools

Shaan Power Tools is on the first floor of the Lakshmi Complex. We are right on Kanakapura Road, near the Dodda Kallasandra bus stop. You can see the buses pulling in and out all day from our window. Being on the first floor means people have to walk up, but it gives us a bit of a view of the chaos on the road. We have a lot of different power tools on display. They’re mostly out of their boxes so people can see them properly. It’s not a very big space, so we have to be clever about how we stack things. I’m usually there by myself or with one other guy. We spend a lot of time showing people how to use the equipment. Sometimes someone comes in just because they’re waiting for their bus and they have time to kill. The complex is always busy with people going to the different shops. Our floor is just plain linoleum and it’s seen better days. There’s a small sink in the corner where we wash our hands after handling the greasy parts. We don't do much in the way of fancy displays. It's just tools on shelves. It gets a bit noisy with the traffic outside, but you get used to it. We just try to get through the daily tasks and make sure the tools are ready for whoever needs them. Sometimes we run out of space and have to keep the extra boxes near the back door. That's just how the day goes.
