Our place, Sha Mohanlal Udayraj & Co, is located at 41549 in the Chickpet area, right across from the Calcutta Pan House in Warje Malwadi. It’s a busy part of the city, and things can get pretty chaotic outside our doors with all the carts and people moving around. We’ve been here for a long time, dealing with the daily rush of the market. The shop is filled with various goods we’ve collected over the weeks. It’s not the most organized space, but we know where everything is kept. Most of our day is spent talking to regular customers and making sure the inventory is moving. Being near the Pan House makes it easy for people to find us, since everyone knows that spot. It’s loud, it’s crowded, and it’s exactly where we want to be. I take my tea at the same time every afternoon while looking out at the street. We don’t have fancy displays or bright lights. It’s just a traditional setup with wooden counters and old shelves. Sometimes the rain makes it tricky with the narrow lanes, but we manage to keep everything dry. My uncles started this business way back, and I just keep it going the same way they did. We aren't looking to change much. It’s a practical business for a practical neighborhood. You come in, get what you need, and go about your day without much fuss. The old floors still creak when you walk on them but they hold up fine.
