Sajo Oil Stores

People in Mathikere know us as the place at number 157 on Sardar Vallabhai Patel Road. Sajo Oil Stores has been around for a bit, and mostly it is just us dealing with the heavy oil tins and the smell of various cooking oils all day long. The floor can get a little slippery if we aren't careful, so we are always throwing sawdust down or wiping things up. We sell to the local families and sometimes smaller shops nearby. It gets pretty loud on this road with all the buses going past, but you get used to it after a while. Most of the day is spent filling up bottles or helping people carry heavy cans to their scooters parked outside. We have a small counter where we keep the ledger and a calculator that has seen better days. There is no air conditioning here, just a couple of old fans that hum while we work. We don't really do anything flashy, we just make sure we have enough stock for the regulars who come every month. Sometimes the delivery trucks arrive late and we have to stay a bit longer to get everything stacked inside. It’s a straightforward way to make a living and we know most of the faces that walk through the door. If you come by in the evening, the light from the street lamps hits the front of the shop just right and things finally start to quiet down.
