S M Auto Batteries

Operating out of Byatayanapura in Mani Nagar 6, we spend most of our time dealing with heavy lead-acid batteries. The floor in the shop is stained from years of work, and there is always a faint smell of chemicals in the air. We keep rows of batteries on the shelves, all different sizes for cars, bikes, and even some bigger vehicles. It is back-breaking work sometimes, lifting those heavy blocks and moving them around the cramped space. We have a small machine for testing if a battery can still hold a charge or if it is completely dead and needs to be scrapped. Most people come to us when they are in a hurry because their car wouldn't start in the morning. They are usually a bit stressed, so we just try to get them sorted as quickly as we can. Our hands are usually black from grease or battery terminals by the time lunch rolls around. We don't have a waiting room or anything like that. People just stand near the entrance or watch us work on the sidewalk. It gets pretty dusty with all the traffic passing by, but that is just part of being in this location. We have an old radio that plays in the background, though you can barely hear it over the sound of the street. It’s a straightforward, greasy job, and we just focus on getting the batteries swapped out correctly so people can get back on the road.
