At S K Toolings, we spend most of our time around the machines on Viswaneedam Madhya Marg. It’s number 49, a bit of a plain building, but it does the job for what we need. The air always smells a bit like metal and oil, which I guess is expected in this line of work. We aren't much for fancy talk or sitting in air-conditioned rooms all day. Most of the time, our hands are dirty from handling the tools and the materials that come through the back. The street outside is usually quiet enough, though you get the occasional delivery truck blocking the way. We’ve got a small crew here, just a few people who know how to handle the equipment without needing to be told twice. Sometimes the machines are loud, so we have to shout over the noise to hear each other, but we’ve worked together so long that we mostly just use hand signals anyway. We don't have a big marketing department or anyone to write nice brochures. We just show people what we can do with the steel and the lathes. If a part isn't right, we fix it until it is. It’s a straightforward way of doing business. The floor is concrete and a bit cracked in the corners, but it holds up. We just keep our heads down, stay busy, and make sure the gates are locked tight before we leave for the evening.
