Running a business on Commercial Street is always a bit of a challenge because of how crowded it gets. We are located at 162, right opposite where the Woodland shoe shop is in Shivaji Nagar. If you know that area, you know how hard it is to even find a spot to stand sometimes. S A Karim Khan & Co has been around for a long time, and we’ve seen the street change quite a bit. It used to be quieter, but now there is music and people shouting all day long. Our shop isn't very wide, but it goes back deeper than you’d think when you first look at it from the pavement. We spend a lot of our time just organizing the stock and talking to the people who wander in. Some people just come in to get out of the sun for a minute, and that’s fine with us. We know most of the other shopkeepers around here, and we often share tea in the afternoons when things slow down a little bit. The sign out front is a bit faded now, but people still find us. We don’t do any big advertisements or anything like that. Most of our work comes from people who have been told about us by their parents or uncles. It’s a bit of an old-fashioned way to do things, but it works for us here in Shivaji Nagar. We keep the doors open and just do our best every day.
