We’ve got our shop at 30 Silver Jubilee Park Road. People usually just call it SJP Road. We’re very close to the City Market, which means it’s always crowded and noisy outside our door. We sell rubber products, so the whole shop smells like a new tire. It’s a deep, narrow space crammed with hoses, belts, and sheets of rubber stacked up to the ceiling. If you’re looking for something specific, you usually have to wait while we climb a ladder to get it down. We don’t have a fancy website or a computer system for the stock; we just know where everything is by memory. The City Market area is a whirlwind of activity from dawn till dusk. We see all kinds of people coming in, from mechanics to factory owners. The floor is stained from years of moving rubber around, but we don’t mind. It’s a practical workspace. We’ve been on SJP Road for a long time now. We know the tea seller on the corner and the other shopkeepers nearby. It’s a tight-knit spot despite all the chaos. We spend our time measuring lengths of hose and cutting them to size for customers. It’s honest work, and we like the pace of being near the market. There’s never a dull moment when you’re right in the middle of all that trade.
