Sokhi Machine Craft is tucked away at No. 4 on 1st Cross in Wilson Garden. If you know the area, you know how tight the streets can get around here. We’ve got the workshop set up and it’s usually pretty loud once the machines get going in the morning. There is always a smell of cutting oil and metal shavings on the floor. It’s not a showroom. We have grease on our clothes by noon most days. Wilson Garden has a lot of these small shops, and we are just one of them. The building is old and the walls could use a bit of paint, but the machines inside work just fine. We don’t spend much time worrying about how the place looks to people passing by. It’s about the work on the bench. My father used to say that a clean shop means no one is working, so we keep it busy. The 1st Cross is a bit of a shortcut for some, so there is always some noise from the scooters. We have a small bench outside where we sit for ten minutes to have tea. It’s a basic life here. We don't have fancy brochures or a front desk person. You just walk in and talk to whoever is holding a wrench. That is how we have always done it at No. 4.
