Okiniwa Shorin Ryu Shorin Kan Karate

We run this karate school on Banneraghatta Road, tucked inside the Divya Vaishnavi Chals. It’s a simple space where we spend most of our evenings teaching. You can usually hear the shouting and the sound of feet hitting the mats from outside. Okiniwa Shorin Ryu Shorin Kan Karate has been here at number 7618 for quite some time now. It’s not one of those high-end gyms with fancy air conditioning; it’s just a plain room where people come to learn the moves. We get all sorts of students, from little kids who can barely stand still to older folks looking to get some exercise. It’s a lot of repetition and practice. Sometimes it gets a bit cramped when the bigger classes show up, but we make it work. We teach the Shorin Ryu style, which is something we’ve been doing for years. Most of the time, we’re just focusing on getting the forms right and making sure everyone is paying attention. The traffic on Bannerghatta Road can be a nightmare for parents trying to drop their kids off, but they still show up. We aren't trying to be anything special, just a place to practice martial arts and stay disciplined. The mats are a bit worn, and the walls could probably use some fresh paint, but the training is what matters to us. It’s just a local dojo where people put in the effort and try to improve a little bit every day.
