Nizam Paints & Hardware

Nizam Paints & Hardware is situated at 39 Central Street over in Shivajinagar. It is an old part of town, and our shop fits right in with the surrounding buildings. When you walk in, the first thing you notice is the smell of paint and metal. We have cans of every color stacked up against the walls, sometimes in piles that get a bit too high. We also keep a variety of hardware items in bins and drawers scattered around the counter area. The shop is not very big, so things can get a bit crowded when more than two people are inside. We have been here for years, and the walls are covered with old calendars and notes we have scribbled to ourselves. Central Street is always moving, with vendors and shoppers passing by the door from dawn until dusk. We spend most of our time mixing colors or helping someone find the right size of bolt. It is a lot of standing on our feet, but we are used to it by now. The counter is made of heavy wood and has been scratched and stained over time, showing the history of the place. We do not have a computer system for everything, so we still write down a lot of things by hand in our ledgers. It is just how we have always done it, and it works well enough for us. Every evening we pull the shutters down.
