Started the day early at 132 Kengeri Matawadi Char Rasta. This spot near the university gets a lot of people passing by. We have been here for a while now. The shelves are packed with all sorts of things, from small nails to big plumbing pipes. Sometimes it is hard to find exactly where I put a specific wrench, but I usually get there in the end. The dust settles on the paint cans pretty fast. People come in asking for advice on a leaky tap or which lightbulb is the brightest. I just tell them what I know from using the stuff myself. The university students often pop in looking for tape or a screwdriver for their projects. It gets a bit loud when the traffic builds up at the Char Rasta outside. The fan in the corner hums all day. It is not a fancy place, just a regular shop where we keep things moving. My hands usually have a bit of grease on them by noon. We don't have a big staff, just a couple of us making sure things are in stock. Sometimes the delivery truck blocks the narrow road for a bit. It is just how it goes here. I like the routine of opening the shutters every morning and seeing who comes through the door first. It feels good to be part of the neighborhood and help people find the right bolt or washer for their home repairs.
