Hotel Uttarayan

Hotel Uttarayan is over in Yeshwantpur on the corner of 17th Cross and Sampige Road. It’s been here for quite a long time and the building definitely shows its age. We have rooms for people to stay in and a small dining area on the ground floor. It’s a basic place, nothing like those expensive hotels you see in the center of the city. The fans in the rooms are a bit noisy and the paint is peeling in some of the corners, but we try to keep things tidy. We get a lot of people who are just passing through because we are so close to the station. They usually just want a bed and a hot meal before they move on. The food we serve is just simple home-style cooking that my family has been making for years. The lobby is small and usually has some newspapers scattered around for guests to read. I sit at the front desk most of the day, checking people in and out. Sometimes the plumbing acts up and I have to call the guy from down the street to come and take a look at it. Sampige Road is always full of life, so there’s always something to look at out the window. It’s just a plain, honest hotel for people who need a place to stay without spending too much money. I grew up in this building and I know every single creak in the floorboards.
