We’ve been at 302 Jalahalli for quite some time now. It’s just a basic tool shop, nothing fancy to look at from the street. Most mornings start with moving a few heavy crates around so there's enough room for people to walk through the aisles. The shelves are packed with all sorts of wrenches, drill bits, and hammers that have been sitting there for a while. It gets a bit dusty in the corners, but we know where everything is. Usually, it's just me and one other guy handling the walk-ins. People from around Jalahalli come in looking for a specific size of bolt or a replacement part for a machine that broke down mid-job. We don't really do big advertising or anything like that. Word of mouth seems to work fine for us. Sometimes the phone rings off the hook and other times it's quiet enough to hear the traffic outside. We spend a lot of time sorting through stock that arrives in big wooden boxes. It’s hard work on the back, lifting those sets, but it keeps us busy. The lighting inside isn't the best, but it gets the job done. We try to keep things organized, though during a busy week, things tend to pile up on the main counter. It’s just how it goes when you’re running a place like Hemco Tools. We’re just here every day, opening up early and staying until the sun goes down. We keep a pot of coffee in the back that stays warm all day, and we usually have the radio playing some local news in the background.
