Durga Appliances

I usually get to the shop around ten in the morning after dealing with the traffic near Chickpet. Durga Appliances is on the first floor in P S Lane, and those stairs are quite steep when we are carrying heavy boxes of mixers or ceiling fans up and down all day. The lane itself is always crowded with people and carts, so getting our stock delivered can be a real headache. We have been in this spot for a while now. Inside, the shelves are crowded with induction stoves, pressure cookers, and smaller spare parts that people come looking for. It gets pretty hot in the afternoons because the ventilation isn't great, but the old ceiling fan keeps things moving. Most days are spent unpacking crates or showing customers how a certain grinder works. The floor is concrete and has some cracks near the counter where the heavy stuff usually sits. We keep a ledger for all the sales, and it sits right next to the landline phone that rings more than it should. My cousin helps me out with the heavy lifting because my back isn't what it used to be. We close up around eight most nights, sometimes later if someone is still browsing the rows of kettles. It is a noisy place with all the street sounds coming up through the windows, but it is just how things are here in this part of town. We just keep the shelves full and wait for the next person to walk in.
