Working out at Bommasandra Industrial Area 53 means a long ride every morning, but you get used to the routine after a while. The building for Continental Automotive Components (India) Pvt Ltd is big, and there’s always something going on behind the gates. It’s not like a small shop where you can see everyone; here, it’s more about the noise of machines and the sound of trucks coming in and out. I spend a lot of my time near the entrance or moving through the different sections. The air out here in Bommasandra always smells a bit like metal and exhaust, which is just part of being in an industrial zone. Number 53 is a large plot, so it takes a minute to walk from one end to the other. We wear heavy shoes and sometimes the floor gets a bit greasy, so you have to be careful. The lunchroom is where everyone gathers, and it’s usually the loudest place in the whole building. It’s hard work and the shifts can be long, but there’s a sense of just getting things done. We don’t really talk about big goals or anything, we just focus on the parts we’re handling that day. When the whistle blows at the end of the shift, there’s a massive rush for the gates as everyone tries to beat the traffic back toward the city. It’s a massive operation, but it’s made of regular people.
