Call Center College

Up on the 8th floor of the Barton Center on Mahatma Gandhi Road, you’ll find us at room 806. The view is nice, but we spend most of our time looking at headsets and scripts. It’s a training spot for people who want to work in call centers. We have a row of desks that look like a real office setup so people can get used to it. The carpet is a little worn out from all the foot traffic. We’ve been here for a good amount of time now. We aren't a big university, just a practical place to learn how to talk on the phone and handle the software. Sometimes the elevator takes forever to get up to the 8th floor, which is a bit of a pain. We have a small break room where the fridge makes a weird humming noise. It’s a straightforward operation. We don’t do big fancy marketing; we just help folks get ready for a job. You’ll hear people practicing their English or learning how to deal with customers. It’s a lot of talking throughout the day. We keep some spare pens and pads of paper around for notes. It’s just a regular office space where we try to get people ready for the real world of work. We stay late most nights to make sure the computers are updated for the next day's learners.
