We spend most of our time here at 11/2 Lakshmipura Road, just keeping things moving. The shop in Abbigere isn't some high-tech showroom, it’s mostly just rows of heavy metal shelves packed with different types of bearings. If you walked in today, you’d probably see a few of us sorting through new crates or trying to find a specific part number for a guy waiting at the counter. It gets pretty loud with the trucks passing by outside, but we’re used to it. The floor is concrete and has a few oil stains here and there, which is expected when you’re handling this kind of stuff all day long. We don’t have a fancy reception area. Instead, there’s a small desk where we keep the ledger and the phone. Sometimes the phone rings off the hook with people asking for sizes we haven't seen in months, and other times it’s quiet enough to hear the fan buzzing overhead. We've learned to recognize most of our regulars by the sound of their engines pulling up. Dealing with bearings means getting your hands a bit greasy, and there is always a layer of fine dust on the boxes in the back. It’s just how the job goes. We don’t spend much time on decorations or making things look pretty because the people coming here just want to get their machinery fixed and get back to their own work as quickly as possible.
