Shivani Spices is run right out of Gandhi Nagar, specifically at House No 43/01 in Ward 20. If you know the 3rd Cross, you’ve probably walked past our building many times without thinking much of it. We deal with all kinds of spices every single day. The smell in the building is pretty strong, but we’ve gotten used to it over the years. We started this because we wanted to do something local and useful. Gowri Shankar Nilaya is where the main operations happen. It’s a bit of a tight space inside, with sacks of different powders, seeds, and dried chilies piled up against the walls. We spend most of our time grinding, sorting, and packing everything by hand. It’s messy work, to be honest. Your hands end up smelling like turmeric or spicy chili for days at a time, no matter how much you wash them. We don't have a big corporate office or a reception desk. It is just a few rooms where the heavy grinders are kept and a small area for weighing things out. Gandhi Nagar is a busy neighborhood, so there is always some noise outside or someone coming and going. We try to keep things organized, but when a big shipment arrives on a truck, the whole place gets a bit chaotic for a few hours. We just focus on the task at hand and ignore the mess. It's a simple life for us here. We open up early and usually stay until the last batch is sealed up tight.
