Kumawat Stonex

The yard here at Plot 611 on Beawar Road gets pretty dusty in the afternoons. We spend most of our time out there moving slabs around. People come by after visiting the government hospital nearby because we are just right there. It’s been this way for a while now. The sun hits the stone in the morning and you can really see the patterns. We don't have a fancy office or anything like that. Just a desk and some chairs where we sit to talk about what's needed for a house or a floor. Bijainagar is a small place but everyone knows where the stone shops are. Most days it’s just us and the noise of the trucks going past on the road. Sometimes the loading takes longer than we thought it would. That’s just how it goes with heavy stone. We try to keep things organized but a stone yard is never really clean. You get used to the grit on everything. My shirt is usually covered in dust by noon. It’s hard work, but we’ve been doing it. Spending time on a computer isn't really what we do. Most of our notes are on scraps of paper or in a ledger book. If someone stops by, we just step out and show them what we have in the back. It’s simple. No big speeches or anything. Just us here at Kumawat Stonex working through the day. We have a small stove for making tea when neighbors stop by to chat. It's a regular life.
