Gaurv Cement Works

Out here in Mahaveer Bazar, things are always moving. Our shop, Gaurv Cement Works, is tucked away in Kundan Bhawan Gali at Plot No. 5/15. It is a bit of a tight squeeze for the bigger trucks, but we manage. We deal with all sorts of cement stuff, like those heavy blocks and the pre-cast pieces people use for their houses. The air always has that grey dust in it, and our boots stay white from the mix. We started this because there was so much building happening around here. It is not an easy job, lifting those heavy bags and making sure the molds set right when it is humid outside. Sometimes the rain messes with our drying schedule, and we have to cover everything up with big blue sheets. The gali gets crowded with people and scooters, so we have to be careful when moving the stock out to the main road. We have a couple of guys who have been mixing concrete since they were teenagers. They don't need a manual to know when the mix is just right. We usually have tea together in the afternoon while waiting for the next load to arrive. There is no big sign or anything, just the sound of shovels and the smell of wet cement. Most of our neighbors know us by name, and we like it that way. It is just honest work in a busy part of town.
