Saraswati Packers

Over at 3531 Calcutta Street, you will find us at Saraswati Packers. We are right on Amrik Singh Road, so it stays pretty loud with all the traffic passing by. It’s a good spot though. We spend most of our time surrounded by piles of brown cardboard boxes and rolls of heavy tape. It’s not the most glamorous job, but someone has to make sure things get wrapped up properly so they don’t break. My hands are usually covered in dust from the warehouse floor. We use a lot of bubble wrap and old newspapers too. Sometimes the boxes stack up so high you can’t see the back wall. We have a small desk near the front where we keep the records, mostly just hand-written notes in a big ledger. The tea here is always strong because we need it to stay moving. We get all kinds of people coming in, some moving house and others just sending a small parcel to a relative. We don’t do things in a fancy way. We just take the items, wrap them tight, and make sure the labels are stuck on good. The fans hum all day long to keep the air moving, but it’s still a bit stuffy. We’ve been on this street for years and know all the other shopkeepers around. It’s just how it is here. We start early and leave when the last truck is loaded.
