Umiya Shree

You can find Umiya Shree over in Ward No 3, right near the petrol pump in Dawna. Being close to the pump is handy because people usually use it as a landmark to find us. We’re in the Thikri tehsil area, which stays pretty hot during the summer months. Our work involves a lot of lifting and sorting through materials. The post office is just down the road too. We started this small business because there wasn't much else around here for construction needs. It’s a basic operation. We have a small yard where we keep everything and a tiny room where we sit when the sun gets too bright. It’s not a corporate place with air conditioning. We mostly deal with locals who are fixing up their homes or building something small in the village. Sometimes we have to wait a few days for supplies to arrive if the trucks get delayed. My cousin helps me out with the heavy lifting and the bookkeeping. We don't have a big staff, just a couple of us doing the daily work. It gets dusty and noisy, but that’s part of the trade. We just want to make sure the inventory is right and the orders are ready when people come to pick them up. It’s a simple life running a shop in a place like Dawna, and we like it that way.
