Lakshya International School

Out here at Lakshya International School on the Maheshwar Mehtwara Road, things are a little quieter than in the middle of town. We’re in Khargone, and the drive out here has a lot of open fields on both sides. The school sits right on the road, so it’s easy to find. We have a fair amount of space, which is nice. There’s a lot of wind that comes across the fields and blows through the classrooms. We spend our mornings waiting for the buses to arrive from the different villages nearby. Once the kids get here, the whole place wakes up. We have regular classrooms with desks that the kids have carved their names into over the years. We try to keep the garden area looking okay, but the sun is pretty harsh in Maheshwar, so the grass gets brown pretty fast. We aren't trying to be anything we’re not. It’s just a school where we try to keep the kids focused on their books. The staff room has a small stove where we make tea throughout the day. We talk about the crops and the weather just as much as we talk about the students. It’s a simple life out here on the Mehtwara road. When the day is done, the buses head back out and the silence comes back to the fields. We just lock up, check the gate, and do it again tomorrow.
