Mahua Majumdar

I am Mahua Majumdar and I work out of my place at 4/205 in the 700109 area of Kolkata. I’ve been teaching from my home for quite a few years now. It wasn't really a planned thing to start a business, it just happened because I like helping kids with their studies. My living room basically turns into a classroom every afternoon. It gets a little crowded sometimes when I have five or six students sitting around the big table, but we make it work. I don't have a big sign outside or anything like that. Most of the parents just know me from the neighborhood. I focus mostly on the primary school subjects because that is what I enjoy most. We drink tea, talk about the day, and then get to the books. It’s a very informal setup. I think the kids feel more at ease here than they do in a big school environment. Sometimes my cat walks across the table while we are doing math, which usually makes everyone laugh. It’s just a regular home where learning happens. I don't use any special methods or expensive materials. We just use the books they bring from school and I explain things until they get it. It’s a quiet life and I like it this way. Helping these kids find their footing in school keeps me busy and quite happy throughout the week.
