You can find Mahendran Agro right at Standard Chowk on Handaya Road. It’s a spot that everyone around here knows. We’ve been serving the local farmers for quite a while now. The shop is full of seeds, tools, and different things people need for their land. It isn't a modern supermarket style. It’s more of a traditional store where things are stacked up to the ceiling. We know most of the people who come in. We talk about the rain, the soil, and how the prices are looking this year. It’s a community thing as much as it is a business. My family has been involved in this for a long time. We open the doors early in the morning, usually just as the sun is coming up, because that’s when the farmers are already out and about. It’s a bit quieter during the heat of the day, so we take that time to restock the shelves or sort through the new deliveries. We don't have a computer system that tracks everything perfectly, so we still use a lot of paper and ink. It works for us. The floor is just concrete and it gets a bit dusty from all the sacks of grain. We keep a couple of chairs out front for people to sit and talk for a bit. It’s a simple, honest way to spend the day and we like the rhythm of the seasons.
