Network Engineer

We’re working out of a spot near the Custom Quarters in Mahaveer Nagar, which is part of the Larsen & Toubro setup here in Barmer. It’s a bit of a dusty place, as you’d expect for this part of Rajasthan, but we’ve made ourselves comfortable in the Cl-21 building. Being a network engineer out here means dealing with a lot of heat and wind. We spend our days making sure the systems are running right and fixing things that get worn out by the environment. It’s not a fancy office job. We’re often out in the field or crawling around with cables to get things connected. The team is small and we’ve become good friends because there isn't much else to do around here. We spend a lot of time drinking tea and talking about things back home. The work is steady and it feels good to be productive. We don’t have any big corporate slogans. We just try to keep the lines open and the data moving. Some days the sand gets into everything and we have to spend hours cleaning things out, which can be frustrating, but it’s just part of living in Barmer. We like the quiet of the evenings here when the sun goes down and it finally starts to cool off. It’s a tough place to work sometimes, but we’re proud of what we do. We don't need much, just our tools and a bit of shade to keep us going.
