Our business, Kishanmitra Seeds India Private Limited, is out in Baragarh. We are located in Parmanpur, specifically in the Tope Attabira area, care of Jagapati Godavarti. It’s a rural spot, which makes sense since we deal mostly with seeds. We spend a lot of our time talking to farmers and looking at different seed varieties to see what works best. The office is simple, just a room with some benches and a lot of bags of seeds stacked up against the walls. It usually smells like earth and burlap in here. We aren't some big city firm where everyone wears suits and ties. We wear regular work clothes because we’re often out in the fields or moving heavy stock around. The weather is a massive part of our lives. If it doesn’t rain, things get really tough for everyone in the area. We’ve been in Baragarh for many years now. We know the land and we know the people who work it. We don’t have a fancy mission statement or a polished way of talking. We just tell it like it is. Sometimes the seeds don't do as well as we had hoped, and we have to spend time figuring out why that happened. It’s a lot of trial and error. We work hard, and the days can be long, especially during the planting season. It’s good work. It feels right to be part of the farming cycle. We just keep doing what we’ve always done.
