Mountzion School

Mountzion School is out in Baigachi village, right on the road that runs between Habra and Naihati. It is a rural area, so things move a bit slower around here compared to the city. The school building sits back a little way from the main road. We have a big metal gate that stays open during the day for the children. Most of the kids walk here from the nearby houses or take a shared rickshaw. We have got a small staff room where we keep all the textbooks and the attendance registers. It is often a bit messy with papers and lunch boxes scattered around. The playground is just a patch of grass that the local cows sometimes try to get into if the fence is loose. We spend a lot of time trying to keep the place tidy, but with so many kids running around, it is a hard task. The Ashok Nagar post office is not too far away, which is where we go to get our mail. The road outside can get very dusty in the summer when the big trucks go past. We started this school because there were not many good options for the families in this part of Baigachi. It is a basic setup with wooden benches and simple blackboards. We just try to make sure every kid has a seat and a book to read.
