Kolkata Green Tree Nursery

Out here in Harinkhola, things are a lot quieter than in the big city. Kolkata Green Tree Nursery is where we spend our days, surrounded by plants and bags of soil. We are located in the Chakla area of Deganga. It’s a lot of manual work, like watering the saplings and making sure the trees are growing the right way. We get our hands dirty every single day, but that’s just part of the job when you run a nursery. We have all sorts of green things here, from small flowering shrubs to bigger trees that take three or four people just to move them. Deganga is a good place for growing things because the soil is actually pretty decent. We don't have a big office building or anything. Our office is mostly just a small shed where we keep the ledgers and the seeds dry. We spend most of our time outside under the sun anyway. The weather really tells us what we have to do each day. If it's raining, we're busy with drainage and covers. If it's hot, we're out there watering everything twice a day. It’s a simple life at Harinkhola. We don't have fancy advertisements or big signs. People just know we are here in Chakla if they need something green for their yard or garden. We've been doing this for a long time, and we've seen many of these trees grow from tiny seeds. It is slow work, but we are never in a rush.
