Jutee Handicrafts is located over at Swamiji Park, Bl-1, in Michael Nagar, near the airport. Being so close to the airport means we hear the planes taking off all the time. Our place is a workshop where we deal with jute and other handicraft materials. Jute is a bit messy to work with because of the fibers that fly around, so we’re always sweeping the floor. We make bags, wall hangings, and other small items. It started out as just a hobby for a couple of us, but then it turned into a real business. We don't have a big fancy showroom. It’s mostly just shelves filled with our stock and a few tables where we do the assembly. Michael Nagar is a busy area, and we have a lot of people walking by. Sometimes they pop their head in to see what the noise is about. We just show them what we're working on. We don't use any big machines, just some basic tools and our hands. It's a bit slow going, but we like it that way. We don't want to be a giant factory. We just want to make decent jute products that people can actually use. Some days we have a lot of orders to finish, and we stay late. Other days are quiet and we just organize the shop and talk about new ideas. It's a good way to spend the day for us.
