Gurukul College

Gurukul College is situated right near the Rajasthan Syntex Mill in Dungarpur. Being so close to the mill means there is always a bit of dust in the air and the sound of machinery in the distance. The college building is a simple, functional place made of stone and concrete. We have a few main hallways and rooms that are quite large to allow for the breeze to come through when it is hot outside. We don't have air conditioning, so we just leave the windows open and hope for the best. The students are mostly local boys and girls from the town and the nearby rural areas. They come here to get their degrees so they can find better jobs. We have a small staff room where we keep our lunch boxes and the attendance registers. There isn't much in the way of decoration, just some old charts on the walls and the occasional notice pinned to the board. We spend our days lecturing and then grading papers in the afternoon. It is a very direct, no-frills kind of education. We don't have a fancy canteen, so everyone just eats whatever they brought from home. The yard is just a patch of dirt where the students gather during the break to talk about their lives. We are just a local college trying to help the community. It’s a hard-working environment, and we don't make it sound more complicated than it is.
