Shiba Durga Rice Mill

Shiba Durga Rice Mill is located out in Vill. Chowkimura, Po. Murakata. Being out in the village means we are right in the middle of where the rice actually grows. The landscape around us is mostly fields and quiet roads. When harvest time comes, this place gets incredibly busy. We have farmers bringing their paddy by the cartload. The mill is a large open structure that lets the breeze through, which is good because it gets very dusty. We spend our days processing the grain and bagging it up. There is a lot of heavy lifting involved and we are usually tired by the end of the day. We don't have a fancy address in a big city. Our mail comes to Murakata. The people who work here are mostly from the nearby villages. We don't use complicated business terms or have big meetings. We just talk about the weather and how the crop is looking this year. The noise of the huller is the soundtrack to our lives. Sometimes a stray dog wanders in and finds a place to nap in the shade. It’s a very grounded way of living. We aren't trying to impress anyone with a polished image. We just provide a place for the local grain to be processed. It’s hard, honest work and that is enough for us. The days start early and end when the last bag is filled and the sun begins to set over the fields.
