S A S Institute India Pvt Ltd has its office at 1103, 29 Mahathma Gandhi Road, or M G Road as everyone calls it. We are up on one of the higher floors, so we get a decent view of the traffic crawling along below. The office is mostly filled with computers and people focused on data and software projects. It’s a lot of quiet clicking and the occasional meeting in the corner room. M G Road is always busy, so getting to work in the morning is usually a bit of a struggle with the metro and the buses. Inside, it’s much more controlled and calm. We have a small area for tea where people congregate when they need a break from their monitors. The furniture is standard office stuff, nothing special or particularly modern. We’ve been at this location for a while, and the walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint if we ever found the time to move things around. Most of the day is spent looking at rows of code or spreadsheets. We don’t really do much in the way of public events here. It’s just a place where the staff comes to get their work done and then heads home. It’s a professional enough environment, but it feels lived-in and real rather than like a showroom. We just keep our heads down and stay busy with the technical tasks. It is what it is.
