If you head down to No. 23 on Godown Street, you will find us there. Patel Hajee Abdul Hadi Sahib & Co has been part of this crowded neighborhood for a long time. Godown Street is famous for being narrow and packed with people moving bundles of cloth and all sorts of goods. It’s the kind of place where you have to watch your step because of the handcarts and the motorcycles zooming past. Our building is old, like most of the structures in this part of the city. Inside, it’s a bit dark and smells like old paper and stock. We don’t have any fancy signs or bright lights to get people's attention. The name is on the door and that is enough for the folks who need to find us. Usually, there is a lot of shouting and haggling going on right outside our entrance, but inside we just try to keep things organized. It is a family-run kind of feel here, even if it is a bit chaotic on the busy days. We have stacks of registers and a few old chairs for when visitors come by. It is not the most comfortable place in the world, especially when the humidity picks up, but it is home to our business. We’ve seen the street change over the decades, though it still feels like the same old Godown Street. We just keep doing what we've always done. There is plenty of history in these walls, even if they could use a fresh coat of paint soon.
