Sudama Mal Brick Field

You'll find our brick field on the road between Chakwa Pandri and Tulsi Pur. It’s a quiet stretch of road most of the time, which suits us just fine for the work we do. We’ve got plenty of space here to spread out the wet bricks and let them dry slowly in the sun. Making bricks is a slow process, and you can't really rush the drying if you want them to hold up well. We spend a lot of time checking the fire in the kiln and making sure the heat stays even all the way through. My clothes are always stained with the color of the earth, and my boots are pretty worn out from walking the yard all day. We aren't a high-tech company by any means. We use the same simple methods that have worked for many years. People from the nearby villages know they can come to us when they need a few thousand bricks for a new garden wall or a house. We don't bother with much paperwork or having big meetings in offices. We just talk to the truck drivers and help them get loaded up. Sometimes we run out of stock during the busy months, so we just tell people to come back in a week or two. It’s a simple way of living, working with the land and the fire. We just keep doing what we've always done.
