Art Ballabgarh

Art Ballabgarh is situated on the Main Road of Sohana Road. We are quite close to the Bharat Petrol Pump, which is where we tell everyone to look if they get lost. The shop is usually a bit of a mess with scraps of wood and bits of glass everywhere. That’s just the way it is when you’re putting things together. We do a lot of framing and some signs, mostly for the people living nearby. The noise from the main road is constant, but we’ve gotten used to the sound of the horns and the trucks going by. It’s a small space, so we have to be careful where we step. There’s always a layer of sawdust on the workbench no matter how much we sweep. We don’t have a big staff, just a few of us who know how to handle the tools. Most days are spent measuring things out and making sure the cuts are straight. Sometimes the glue takes longer to dry when it’s humid outside, which can slow us down. We keep the finished pieces wrapped in paper in the back so they don’t get nicked. It’s practical work. We aren't trying to be a gallery, just a place where things get made. People drop off their pictures and we get to work on them when the materials arrive. We drink a lot of tea while we work.
