St.Xavier'S International School

Our school is over in Sahadevkhunta which is a busy little area in Balasore. We have been here for a while and the building has seen a lot of students pass through its doors. It is a fairly straightforward setup. We have the main classrooms, some space for the kids to run around, and the offices where all the paperwork gets handled. Balasore can get quite humid so we try to keep the rooms as airy as possible. You will usually find me or one of the other staff members near the gate in the morning watching the kids arrive. They come in all sorts of ways—some on cycles, some dropped off by their parents on scooters, and the ones who live close just walk. It is a lively atmosphere. We do not go in for much decoration and we prefer to keep things simple and functional. The walls are mostly covered with charts and drawings the kids have made. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to wait for the generator to kick in, which is just part of living here. We know most of the parents by face if not by name. It is a community school through and through. We just show up every day, do the work that needs doing, and try to make sure everything runs smoothly for the kids in Sahadevkhunta. We do not need anything fancy to get the job done right.
