Gurukulvidyamandir is a local school here in Balasore. The building is one of those older types with high ceilings and thick walls that help keep the heat out during the summer. It is not a very complicated place to find, though the street can get a bit narrow with parked bikes and the occasional stray cow. We have a central courtyard where the morning sun hits just right, and that is where everyone meets up to start the day. The classrooms are basic, with rows of benches and blackboards that always have a bit of chalk dust on the floor beneath them. Being in Balasore, the air can sometimes smell a bit salty from the sea, which is nice on the rare days we get a good breeze. We do not have a lot of equipment, just the usual books and maps on the walls. Most of us who work here have been doing this for a long time, so we have a set routine that rarely changes. We know which windows stick when it rains and which fans make that clicking noise when they are on high speed. It is a quiet existence, focused on the daily lessons and the small moments between classes. We are just a group of people running a school in a corner of town that most people just pass through on their way to the market. It is a simple life for us here.
