Powmex Steels

Working out here at the rolling mill in Titilagarh is no easy task. We are part of the Powmex Steels division under GKW Ltd. If you’re looking for the Deputy Manager’s office, that’s where a lot of the day-to-day decisions happen. Bolangir can be a tough place with the weather, especially in the summer, but the mill keeps running regardless. It’s a lot of heat and heavy machinery around here. We’ve got a good group of people in Orissa who have been working these machines for years. It’s the kind of place where your hands stay dirty and you’re always tired by the end of the shift. We don't really have time for anything that isn't related to the steel. The mill is the heart of what we do. We deal with the rolling process and make sure the output is what it needs to be. It’s noisy and there is always something that needs oiling or fixing. We don’t put on any acts here. It’s just straight-up industrial work. Most of us live nearby and have been part of this community for a long time. It’s a practical way of life. We take the work seriously because that’s what keeps the place going. It’s not fancy, but it is honest work that needs to be done every single day. We just keep our heads down and get the steel moving out.
