Shankar Furnitures

Shankar Furnitures has been part of Raju Colony for many years. We are located at 10-148/28 and we have been working with wood and making furniture in this same spot. The business was started by the family and we just keep it going as best we can. There is always sawdust on the floor and the sound of hammers going. We make beds, tables, and chairs mostly. Sometimes people bring in old pieces that need a bit of work to look good again. It is heavy work and our hands are usually pretty rough from all the sanding and lifting. The shop is tucked away in the colony so it is mostly the locals who come by. We don't have a big showroom like the shops in the city. Usually, you just see the pieces we are working on right now sitting near the entrance. We take our time with the wood because that is how we were taught. Sometimes the wood doesn't cooperate or the weather is too humid for the polish to dry right. We just wait it out and keep working. It is a quiet kind of life here in Raju Colony. We know all the neighbors and they know where to find us if they need a new cupboard or a stool. We just keep the shop open and do the work that comes in. It's what we know how to do and we enjoy it.
