Down here at House No 54 in Kamod, things are usually pretty busy with the oil seeds. Baund Oil Seed Farmer Producer Company Limited is really just a group of us from the village trying to handle our crops together. We spend a lot of time talking about the weather and when to get the seeds in the ground. Kamod is a small place, so everyone knows whose tractor is running late or who has the best crop this year. We don’t have some big corporate building, just the house where we meet up to figure things out. It’s mostly about getting the mustard or whatever else we are growing sorted and ready. The yard gets crowded with bags when it’s harvest time and there is dust everywhere. You can smell the earth and the seeds when the wind blows right. It is hard work and our hands are always rough from the labor, but that’s just how it goes in the village. We started this because it was getting difficult to do everything alone. Now we sit around in the evenings after the work is done and plan for the next month. It’s not a polished operation. There are always stacks of papers on the old wooden table and someone is usually shouting over a running engine. We are just trying to get our produce out there without too much fuss. It takes a lot of patience to deal with the soil every single day.
