Our school is right by Basaveshwar Circle in Mahalingapur, at 12-88. It’s a very central spot, so there’s always noise from the traffic and the markets nearby. We’ve got students coming in from all the surrounding villages to learn different trades. The buildings are older and have that lived-in feel, with chalk dust on the floors and the smell of oil from the mechanical workshops. We don't have fancy tech in every corner, but we have the tools that matter for teaching people how to actually build and fix things. The staff room is usually a mess of notebooks and tea cups. We spend our days trying to get the students to focus while the sun beats down on the roof. Mahalingapur is a tight-knit place, and everyone knows where the polytechnic is. We don't put on airs here. It’s about getting your hands dirty in the labs and figuring out how things work. Sometimes the equipment is a bit cranky and needs a bit of a kick to start, but that’s also a learning experience. We are just a group of teachers and support staff trying to give these kids a decent start. It’s tiring work, especially when the circle outside gets jammed with tractors, but we wouldn't be anywhere else.
