Out here in the MIDC Industrial Area in Badlapur, things move at a different pace. Our place is at W-72 (B), and it is a typical industrial setup. There are a lot of pipes and storage tanks around because we deal with chlorides. The air has a sharp, metallic tang to it that you get used to after a few days. It is a big plot of land, and we spend a lot of time walking between the different sections of the facility. The sun beats down pretty hard on the corrugated roofs, making the inside quite warm by the afternoon. We wear heavy boots and uniforms that get stained pretty quickly. There is always a truck parked somewhere waiting to be loaded or unloaded. The gates are usually open to let the breeze through, though it doesn't help much when the humidity is high. Most of the staff comes in early to beat the heat. We don't have a fancy reception area; it is mostly just functional rooms and the production floor. The sound of machinery is the constant background music to our lives here. Badlapur is a bit of a trek for some of us, but this is where the industry is located. We keep the equipment running and make sure the chemicals are handled right. It is hard work, but it is what we know how to do day in and day out.
